Institute in the College of Arts and Sciences
- one of the ten English Teacher Professional Development DISTANCE LEARNING COURSES provided through a U.S. university.
The TESOL Methods course participants were from different countries. We completed weekly readings about specific topics, took quizzes on the readings, participated in online discussions about the weekly topics, completed tasks which provided a structured way for us to apply the knowledge we gained from reading and created a final Growth and Learning portfolio.
This course
is designed to provide participants with current methodologies associated with
teaching English language learners (ELLs) of different ages in various learning
contexts. Participants discuss and practice a wide variety of strategies
and techniques for teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL).
While
exploring best practices for teaching English, participants learn how to create
an effective and communicative language classroom for all ELLs. In addition,
participants examine what best practices means in the context of teaching
English in the 21stcentury, where the use of English incorporates modern
technologies. This course is based partially on the “Shaping the Way We Teach
English” materials.http://photos.state.gov/libraries/ukraine/895/pdf/relo-e-teacher-2014-15.pdf
